ACT awarded Gold Carbon Literate Organisation status We’re absolutely delighted to share that ACT has been accredited as a Gold Carbon Literate Organisation by the UN-recognised Carbon Literacy Project and we’re one of only a small number of organisations in the UK to reach this level! This accreditation recognises our ongoing commitment to climate action. It shows that we’re serious about giving our team the skills, knowledge and confidence to reduce carbon emissions, both within ACT and across the wider communities we work with. So what is Carbon Literacy? Carbon Literacy is all about understanding the carbon impact of our everyday actions and being motivated to do something about it. It’s defined as “an awareness of the carbon costs and impacts of everyday activities, and the ability and motivation to reduce emissions, on an individual, community and organisational basis.” Our Carbon Literacy training programme was created and delivered by our very own Jamie Joyce, ACT’s Project Manager. The training covers a full day’s worth of learning and includes real-world pledges for change, so it’s not just about learning, it’s about doing. Jamie said: “It’s brilliant to see ACT receive this Gold accreditation in the process of supporting the wider population of Argyll and Bute. It reflects the enthusiasm and commitment of our team to take meaningful climate action every day and encourage it in wider settings too. Carbon Literacy training gives us a shared understanding of the climate emergency and the tools to respond in our work, our communities and our own lives. I’m proud of what we’ve achieved so far, and excited about what comes next.” To achieve Gold status, we’ve trained over 50% of our team in Carbon Literacy and we’re already putting that learning into action. We’ve pledged to reduce our emissions through various actions including the further role out of accredited training to all Argyll and Bute residents, and we’ll continue looking for ways to embed carbon reduction into every part of what we do. This accreditation matters to us because it: Supports our team to work together on reducing emissions at every level Helps us lead by example in creating a low-carbon culture Speeds up our response to the climate crisis Shows that rural, place-based organisations like ours can be climate leaders We’re now kicking off another round of Carbon Literacy training with people from across Argyll and Bute. We can’t wait to welcome our next group of trainees and keep the momentum going! Interested in finding out more or getting involved?
