To mark Scotland’s Climate Week, we’re celebrating the twelve community groups who’ve just been awarded funding in the sixth round of the Argyll & Bute Climate Action Network (ABCAN) Climate Action Seed Fund. Together they’ve received £11,000 to deliver local projects that show how people are turning climate ambition into action, tackling challenges, building resilience, and strengthening community connections.

The Climate Action Seed Fund is delivered by ABCAN in partnership with Third Sector Interface and supported by the Scottish Government. Grants of up to £1,000 give community organisations the chance to trial new ideas, scale up existing initiatives, or engage more people in climate action.

This round’s successful recipients are:

  • ALIenergy: supporting households across Argyll with 100 Cosy Kits and energy efficiency advice.

  • The Ardentinny Centre: creating Naturebound, a programme of outdoor and forest-based activities in Cowal, including a Forest Festival and tree planting.

  • Coll Growing Group: building a community Polycrub on the Isle of Coll to extend the growing season and strengthen local food resilience.

  • Cormonachan Community Woodlands Ltd: purchasing tools for volunteer-led woodland conservation and education in Loch Goil.

  • Fun First: running outdoor toddler learning sessions in Helensburgh’s Hermitage Park, helping children and families build climate literacy through play.

  • Grey Matters Active Ageing: encouraging sustainable habits with reusable collapsible cups in Helensburgh and Lomond.

  • Kyles Allotment Group: working with Tighnabruaich Primary School in Cowal to deliver a year-long programme of growing, grafting, and climate education.

  • Lorn Toy Library: reducing waste and supporting families through toy lending, cloth nappies, and repair workshops in Lorn.

  • Multiple Sclerosis Centre Mid Argyll: creating ‘Climate and Care Kits’ and workshops to connect wellbeing with climate action in Mid Argyll.

  • Rhu and Shandon Community Centre: developing their Edible Garden to grow food locally and teach sustainable gardening in Rhu.

  • Somewhere: reimagining the walled garden at Aros Park as a cultural and ecological space on the Isle of Mull.

  • Wild Goilers: monitoring biodiversity with bio-acoustic boxes and developing ecosystem restoration projects in Mid Argyll.

Celebrating local action

Jo Wheeler, ABCAN Community Coordinator, said:

"It’s always inspiring to see the range of ideas that come forward from communities across Argyll & Bute. This round shows just how creative, practical, and inclusive local climate action can be, from toddlers in Helensburgh learning about nature, to older people reducing waste with reusable cups, to volunteers restoring woodlands and growing food. Each project is making climate action part of everyday community life, and that’s exactly what the fund is all about."

Project updates will be shared on the ABCAN Mighty Network: an online space where you can find inspiration, connect, share ideas, and follow the latest local climate action.
