More than 30 people gathered at ACT’s Kilmory Hub in December 2025 for Rhododendron and the Rainforest, an informative open day focused on tackling Rhododendron ponticum and supporting the recovery of Scotland’s rainforest.

Attendees travelled from across the west of Scotland and included representatives from communities, landowners, volunteer groups, forest practitioners and organisations involved in land management. The day provided space to share experiences, learn from one another and explore opportunities for collaboration.

Discussions covered a range of topics, including volunteering opportunities, promoting site recovery after clearance, different approaches to rhododendron removal, funding options, Biodiversity Net Gain and the importance of native tree seed sources and our native nursery.

Participants were also encouraged to think about what next steps would be most helpful and how we can continue to work together to respond to the ongoing challenge of Rhododendron ponticum across Argyll’s rainforest.

Reflecting on the day, Philippa McKee, ACT Habitats Manager, said:

A really encouraging and inspiring day, leaving me grateful for the commitment and energy so many people bring to caring for our rainforests.
