Celebrating Argyll’s rainforest communities through film and music Main banner photo by Emma Henderson / Cove Park We’re delighted to share the outcomes of two creative commissions that celebrate the beauty, spirit, and stories of Argyll’s rainforest communities. These projects have brought together art, nature, and local voices to shine a spotlight on one of Argyll’s most extraordinary habitats. A Film to capture the spirit of the rainforest Our Rainforest Communities Network film, directed by talented filmmaker Rowan Aitchison, offers a window into the lives of those connected to Argyll’s rainforests. Filmed at Glenan Community Woodland during a vibrant weekend of events, the film showcases the efforts of local communities working together to protect, restore and enjoy this unique and increasingly rare habitat. Through stunning visuals and heartfelt thoughts, the film captures the connection between people and place, highlighting the importance of community-led action in protecting Argyll’s rainforests for future generations. Music inspired by the rainforest In partnership with Cove Park, we commissioned cellist and teacher Jessica Kerr to create an original piece inspired by time spent immersed in Argyll’s rainforest. The result, This Is Our Home, is a beautiful and evocative composition that brings together nature, music, and community. The project included a collaboration with the children of Tighnabruaich Primary School and Lochgilphead Primary School, who contributed their voices and ideas to the composition, inspired by their local rainforests. The music starts at 1.30 after the notes from Jessica. A celebration of connection and creativity These creative projects highlight the power of art to bring people closer to nature and to each other. They celebrate the resilience and dedication of rainforest communities and showcase the incredible potential of collaboration across generations and disciplines. We’re deeply grateful to everyone involved in these projects and to the supporters who made them possible. Through film and music, we’re not only raising awareness of Argyll’s rainforests but also inspiring action to protect them.
