For World Peatland Day 2023, Angharad Ward, our peatland initiative sites manager, takes you on a tour of a peatland on Islay.

Why are we restoring peatlands?

Unfortunately, much of our peatlands are in bad condition, leading them to emit large amounts of carbon into the atmosphere and our water courses.

The good news is that by improving the hydrology of bogs, to keep them nice and wet, we reduce the carbon released from the peat and create better conditions for bog-loving plants and animals.
