ACT Under Construction We are so excited to share our on-site developments at Blarbuie Woodland...we (almost) have an office! Tuesday 30th March was a massive day for us, marking a big step towards creating our very own ACT base and Climate Change Hub in Blarbuie Woodland. This will be a dedicated space for all sorts of activities including working, hosting events and workshops and interacting with local communities. Our eco-lodge arrived by police escort after a long journey from Invergordon in the Highlands. The eco-lodge was made for us by Carbon Dynamic, who create modular timber buildings with high levels of insulation, airtightness and sustainability, and was lifted by an enormous crane on to it's foundations which were prepared by M & K Macleod. Alongside the eco-lodge there will be three sheds to provide storage and workshop space for the ACT Now project. One shed will be used for bike storage as part of the "Bikes Back to the Community" project that is run with Alec Ohnstad from the Ardrishaig Bike Bothy. The stored bikes will be donations waiting for repair or refurbished bikes waiting for new owners. Another shed will be dedicated to bicycle repair, both for the aforementioned project and for local residents wanting to make use of the bicycle repair resources which include tool kits and trained volunteers. The third shed will be a tool library that will provide items that focus on repair and reuse in the home. There will be generic tools as well as some more specialised items, for example, a sewing machine, upholstery repair kits, and a food dehydrator to preserve food and reduce food waste. So many people have pulled all the stops out to make this happen financially and logistically and we are incredibly grateful. In particular we would like to thank Colin MacFarlane from NatureScot, Fergus Murray from Argyll and Bute Council, Crown Estate Funding, M & K Macleods, John Peace Architect, Argyll and Bute Council Planning Department, Carbon Dynamic, and NHS Highland Estates. We'll keep you all updated with progress as our site develops and look forward to welcoming you all soon.
