On Tuesday 13 June, we officially opened our MAKI Pups outdoor nursery. Cameron Johnson, one of the children at our nursery, cut the ribbon with nursery practitioner Katy Bednarski at the opening ceremony.

Argyll and Bute Council officials enjoyed a tour of our nursery and all of the new play and educational spaces created since we first opened our gates as a nursery back in 2021.

We now have a Hobbit house, a polytunnel brimming full of produce, a sandpit, raised beds, bug city and strawberry mountain. Our official opening was a chance to celebrate our partnership with the Argyll and Bute Council education team and show them all of the new features.

Thanks to all the council representatives who attended, including Argyll and Bute Council chief executive Pippa Milne, executive director Kirsty Flanagan, head of education Wendy Brownlie, early years development officer Lorna Cameron, education manager early years Tina Sartain (pictured in our polytunnel) and education support officer Cheryl Caldwell.

Nursery manager Erin Kennedy comments: “It’s taken a considerable amount of work to develop our nursery and we’re incredibly proud of how it’s come together. The children are loving all the different features, including the new bug city and sandpit. We've created lots of different spaces for creative play and learning in nature.”

SSEN transmission built the new sandpits for us and the children love to play and create together in the sand. Bug city is a space for children to learn about some of the smaller and more hidden wildlife.

Julie Young, chief executive of ACT comments: “Well done to the whole team! Part of ACT’s mission is to give people opportunities to experience, learn in and be inspired by nature. And that begins with our youngest people.”
